“Resting Eyes” is a video that looks into the haze of memory; the dull sting of humid summer days passed under ancient Live Oaks.
As memories of my grandfather fade, stories of his habits and personality struggle to live on. He is remembered in his hammock after excusing himself from dinner to “rest his eyes.” “Resting Eyes” is set under the same Live Oaks my grandfather used to retire to, with my father reliving one of his favorite pastimes, some forty years later. As summer sounds invite reflection and introspection, memories are considered, reconsidered and carried on for another generation. With the risk of our family tree disappearing into the Gulf of Mexico and the breakdown of intergenerational communication at hand, father finds solace and support in the dependable roots of mother.
