What is the situation in your community? investigates the propensity and commonality of violence in post-Katrina New Orleans. The video juxtaposes 1950’s archival film footage on violence and mental illness produced by the New Orleans Police Department with contemporary expressions of violence and 8mm film shot by the artist’s grandfather, also in the 1950’s. The collision of the disparate imagery creates a rhythm of need and neglect, illuminating the isolation that is often paired with criminal intention.
